Larry Miller purchased his first dealership in Murray, Utah.  It opened on May 1st, 1979, as Larry H. Miller Toyota.  

Larry H. Miller...husband, father, grandfather, entrepreneur, philanthropist, community advocate, and humanitarian, passed away February 20, 2009, from complications of type 2 diabetes.  He was 64.

Larry, a man who truly loved Utah, its people and its land, was born in Salt Lake City in April of 1944.  From modest beginnings, he grew up in the Capitol Hill area, graduated from West High, married his high school sweetheart, Gail, and went on to become one of Utah's most successful entrepreneurs and business leaders...as well as a Hall of Fame softball pitcher!

A tireless worker with a knack for the minutest details, Larry's career in the automotive industry began about age 21.  A recreational drag racer in his spare time, he had come to know the owners of a small auto parts store.  They were looking for someone with experience to work the counter.  Larry had no experience but told them, "I'm a fast learner.  If you hire me, you'd feel good about it!"  He swept floors, stocked shelves, made deliveries, answered the phone, and worked the counter.  Possessing something of a photographic memory, his uncanny ability to remember numbers became legendary. For five years he served as a counter man at various auto parts stores while playing top-level softball competition.  When he was recruited by a softball team in Denver with the promise of a job as a Toyota parts manager, he and Gail moved to Denver in the fall of 1970.

Larry wasn't just good at delivering service and parts; he was world-class.  His store became the highest volume Toyota parts dealer in the nation.  Larry eventually became operations manager over five car dealerships.  However, when the owner of the dealership wanted to reassign Larry elsewhere in the company...Larry decided it was time to strike out on his own.  Returning to Salt Lake City...he bought his first car dealership, drawing up the contract on a place mat in a restaurant!  
 
Throughout the '80s, '90s and beyond, he acquired a number of automobile dealerships in Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon and Idaho. With 39 dealerships, the Larry H. Miller Automotive Group is one of the largest car dealers in America.  Today, Larry H. Miller Ford Lincoln Mercury serves the greater Salt Lake County and beyond.  In this Internet age...we have served clients throughout not only the USA, but five of the seven continents of the world.  

Through the years, Miller amassed more than 80 businesses and properties in the western United States.  Most notable are the Utah Jazz, Energy Solutions Arena, the Salt Lake Bees, Miller Motorsports Park, and Megaplex Theatres.  The entities Miller created have had a significant and lasting impact on the communities in which he does business, and the more than 7,000 individuals he employs.

March 27, 2011 I recently leased a 2011 Ford Escape from Larry H. Miller Ford in Sandy.  This is my second lease and everything went very smoothly.  I loved my 2008 Escape but I really love my 2011 Escape.  I knew of the new technology that was available, especially SYNC by Microsoft, and I wanted to have that in my car.  I worked with Wendy Davis both times.  There was no pressure just a sincere consideration of my needs, wants, and budget.  I couldn't has asked for anything better.  Go see WENDY.  She's great.

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you and Ryan on your combined team effort to find the truck that I really needed. It was very refreshing to work with two car sales representatives who had the customer's interest ahead of their own.

This buying experience by far out paces any I have experienced. What really blew me away was when I went to final finance and explained I do not do add ons, there was no strong arm sales for me to purchase any add ons. I have never had a problem with Ford Products as long as I do the recommended preventative maintenance. My last F150 went 238,XXX miles; I expect this 2009 F150 to well beyond that as I do not have any youth drivers in my household any longer. I did finally purchased the extended warranty when it was explained that a drive line replacement or computer replacement could well exceed the cost of the extension.

All in all I would rate the experience as superior to any I have experienced in the past. The full tank of gas (unheard of in contempory sales) at delivery was another pleasant surprise.

The only recommendation I have is use the manufacture sales sign-age and fluff. Design a VIP waiting area (separate from the general waiting area) to wait while the final finance and credit checks are accomplished. This area would be climate controlled, refreshments, many light snacks, leather couches, etc you get the idea. Cost of this area could come from the balloon and popcorn costs.

Would I recommend your dealerships to my friends and enemies: YES!!!

Mr. Wichman is very knowledgeable in his field, something that can be difficult to find.  I also applaud his professional and courteous conduct as well as the fact that he did not pressure me at any time to purchase the vehicle.  Mr. Wichman fully understood, and accepted, that I need to think about the purchase.  He also encouraged me to ask any questions that I might have, and he had no difficulty answering any questions I, or my wife, had. 
 
It was also a pleasant surprise to find a Sales Person who accepts the fact that a couple is one unit with equal rights. I also was impressed that  Mr. Wichman  did not displayed any patronizing or condescending conduct toward my wife at all at any time.  He treated her just as courteous as he treated me, something we have not always experienced in the past, especially not when purchasing a vehicle.
 
In the past, I have dealt with other dealerships, where I was told that the deal offered would only be good for that day, the vehicle could not be held until the next business day so that I could think about the investment etc.  Or where my wife was treated in a very condescending or patronizing way as if her opinion dos not matter.  None of this applied to Mr. Wichman's conduct.  He is a true professional in his field.

Let me tell you about my experience with (Internet Truck Buying)-one night my wife was surfing on the web, and we had been tossy around ideas of trading in our 2003 Ford Focus that was just paid off for a pickup truck.  Well, Larry H. Miller Ford Lincoln Mercury Sandy came up on my screen about some deals, and with our situation it just wasn't the right deal.  BUT! we had pondered about getting a F350 Dually to open up a Hot Shot Business.  So I emailed Ryan and he got right back to me via phone and email about this awesome white 2004 Ford F350 that was just specially priced.  My husband spoke to Ryan and Ryan also sent all the info he could about this pickup.  Seeing we where in Colorado and over 300 miles away.  Ryan was so very helpful with getting the info together to us on this truck we told him we would send a deposit on the truck as it sounded as perfect as it looked in all emails that we received.  The very next day we drove to Larry H. Dave and I wanted to let you know buying our new truck was the best car (or truck) buying experience we have had in a number of years.  I especially appreciate your patience, not pushing David to make a decision before he was ready (slow mover).  Sometimes he drives me crazy but I have learned over the years he puts a great deal of thought into special purchases such as trucks and washing machines.

I went in basically knowing what car I wanted, Wendy got some info from me and the keys to the car. She showed me all the features and made sure everything was in working condition. Showed me the Carfax and showed that it was taken care of. A quick test drive proved that.

Then moved on to the paperwork, that took some time, mainly it was waiting on confirmations or something like that. Took my crap car from me and gave me the keys to my new car!   

She has called a few times to ask how the car was working out, and let me know that I had to come back in because of the Loan that was lowered after i brought in my Paystub.  She was very thorough and was pressure free through the whole process. Someone I will look forward to buying a car from again in 10 years when I can afford one or need one!

"We highly recomend Ryan"

This was our first experience in purchasing a truck through the Costco Auto program.  From the start Ryan Wichman answered all our questions about how to purchase a new 2010 F150.  He was always professional and followed exactly the steps that we were told by Costco to expect.

We were able to deal directly with him and avoided the usual buying back and forth from salesman to manager.  He went out of his way to find us exactly the truck we wanted, including the color and all the options.  We originally were looking for an extended cab but when he showed us the terrific room that the four door offered we switched to that.  He advised us on all the discounts and rebates that Ford offers and helped us get the overall cost to an amount we were comfortable with.  When we discovered that the extra large trailer towing mirrors wouldn't allow us to garage the new truck (something that we always do with our vehicles and which was instrumental in quickly selling our 97 F150), he arranged for a switch to the smaller chrome mirrors. He is extremely knowledgeable, easy to work with and answered all our questions personally or quickly found out from the service department what we needed to know.  We included a sprayed in bed liner and a bug deflector.  In all we highly recommend that you deal with Ryan and use the Costco Auto program.
