We loaned out 2010 Mercury Milans to Cottonwood, Riverton and Murray. They practiced breaking are cars and fixing them to prepare for the upcoming contest. Before the contest begins there is a tool inspection. Students are not allowed to use power tools or homemade tools (I like to see our mechanics at the dealership fix car without the power tools). Each Ford Milan is bugged (broken) in 10 ways, all of the cars have identical problems making it fare. The students get 90 minutes on the clock as a added pressure to finish. The first team of 2 students to fix all of the bugs wins. To ensure the cars are fixed properly they are driven into a secluded area where the final judges look over the Students work to determine who the winner will be. In final Judging it's hush hush, they don't want to ruin the surprise of who won, I tried to eavesdrop in on the conversations only to get some evil glares. After it was all said and done Cottonwood High School took home the trophy. Riverton took second, I guess it goes to show you what dealership you should borrow cars from to break. The cool part is that every student took home something. The AAA contest gave away thousands of dollars worth of tools and a bunch of scholarships for students to take their education to the next level. One student ended up getting a job in our service department. I was excited to watch the contest up front and back stage, I'm definitely going next year. For More Photos Join us on Face Book
